LAKE INFORMATION
Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. It is 22 miles long by 12 miles wide with an average depth of 1,000ft. At its deepest point Lake Tahoe is 1,636 ft deep. This makes Lake Tahoe the 11th deepest lake in the world. The lake contains 41 trillion gallons of water.
The elevation at the surface of the lake is 6,223ft. The average annual rainfall is 8.3 inches and the average annual snowfall is 216 inches (18 feet). The average January temperatures are 38° high & 16° low. The average July temperatures are 79° high & 43° low. The Lake Tahoe area receives over 290 sunshine days/yr.
Following the road around the lake on a nice day is a memorable trip. The road is roughly 75 miles and you should budget at least an afternoon to make the trip. There are some great photo opportunities as you make you way around the lake as well as other things to see and do.
