LAKE TAHOE BEACHES
There is nothing like spending the afternoon on the sand of one of Lake Tahoe's many beaches. Since Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, it is no wonder why millions of people come to enjoy the more than 30 surrounding parks and beaches.
Due to the popularity of some of the local beaches you may have to pay for parking. Staying in South Lake Tahoe for a while? Visit the Forest Service to obtain a season pass for great savings. Whether you want a hike-in, secluded beach or picnic area, there is a perfect spot for you.
Also enjoy a concert in the park or fireworks over the lake to pass the evening. Tahoe has a wide range of parks and beaches for your favorite summer past time. No matter where you stay near Lake Tahoe there is a sandy spot to satisfy you.
Below are a list of the public beaches:
NORTH SHORE BEACHES
Carnelian Beach/Patton Beach
Carnelian and Patton Beaches are located in Carnelian Bay. A concessionaire rents kayaks and sailboats and teaches lessons during the summer months. Restroom facilities are open on a seasonal basis.
Sandy Beach
Sandy Beach is located in Tahoe Vista across Highway 28 and to the east of Anderson Road and adjoins Moon Dunes beach.
Secline Beach
Located at the end of of Secline Street in Kings Beach. Facilities include a pinic area and BBQ grills.
Tahoe Vista Recreation Area and Boat Launch
The Recreation Area includes lake access recreation, a sheltered boat launching facility, picnic facilities, restroom facilities, sidewalks, and a large plaza area with interpretive signage. Tahoe Adventure Company is under contract with the District to provide kayak tours and rentals from this facility.
Moon Dunes Beach
Moon Dunes Beach is located in Tahoe Vista just off of North Lake Boulevard (State Route 28). It has a modest stretch of sand and offers fire pits, picnic tables and roadside parking.
North Tahoe Beach
North Tahoe Beach is located at the intersection of Highway 267 and Highway 28. North Tahoe Beach underwent a complete renovation in 2003 that included the construction of new restroom facilities and 3 beach volleyball courts. A group picnic shelter that includes a BBQ, running water and seats 90 people was also constructed at that time. The shelter is available for rent for weddings, parties or picnics through the NLTRA 530-581-6900, www.mytahoevacation.com or for use by individuals on a first come, first served basis when the facility is not rented.
Kings Beach State Recreation Area
This is the flagship beach site in the North Tahoe area. The wide stretch of white sand that makes up Kings Beach is a favorite of vistors and residents alike. Its south facing aspect and a lake floor that gradually deepens, makes this one of the warmest swimming areas on the Lake. North Tahoe Watersports provides parasailing rides, jet ski and kayak rental, and a variety of other water toys to visitors to the Kings Beach State Recreation Area.
Coon Street Boat Launch
The Coon Street Boat Launch is located at the end of Coon Street in Kings Beach. The facility includes a boat launch ramp (open when lake levels allow), restrooms and parking for vehicles as well as vehicles with trailers. Parking is limited.
Speedboat Beach
Speedboat Beach is a small beach located at the foot of Harbor Avenue. It has almost no public parking and for that reason is suggested for use by those in the adjacent neighborhoods or those who choose to access the beach by foot, bicycle or public transit.
SOUTH SHORE BEACHES
Baldwin Beach
Located on Hwy 89 4 miles North of South Lake Tahoe "Y". Baldwin Beach has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills. Admission fee $5.00. No dogs allowed.
Camp Richardson Beach
Located on Hwy 89 2 1/2 miles North of South Lake Tahoe "Y". Camp Richardson Beach has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills, boat rentals and food. Parking fees.
Connolly Beach
Hwy 50 at Timber Cove Lodge. Connolly Beach has rest rooms, and a picnic area.
El Dorado Beach
Located between Rufus Allen & Lakeview. El Dorado Beach has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills.
Emerald Bay Beach
Located at the base of Emerald Bay, North of Camp Richardson on Hwy 89. Emerald Bay Beach has rest rooms, and a picnic area.
Fallen Leaf Lake
Located on Fallen Leaf Lake Road off of Hwy 89 North of Camp Richardson on Hwy 89. Fallen Leaf Lake has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills.
Kiva Beach
Located on Hwy 89 2 1/2 miles North of South Lake Tahoe "Y". Kiva Beach has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills.
Nevada Beach
Located on Elk Point Road near Round Hill/Hwy 50. Nevada Beach has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills. No dogs allowed.
Pope Beach
Located on Hwy 89 2 miles North of South Lake Tahoe "Y". Pope Beach has rest rooms, a picnic area and BBQ grills. Admission fee $5.00. No dogs allowed.
Regan Beach
Located west of Hwy 50 of off Lakeview Ave. Regan Beach has rest rooms and a picnic area. No dogs allowed.
Zephyr Cove Beach
Located on Hwy 50 at Zephyr Cove. Zephyr Cove Beach as rest rooms, a picnic area, BBQ grills, boat rentals and food.
Note: Due to water quality issues dogs are not permitted on most beaches.
